Stunned mom calls kids to say she hit lottery jackpot — ‘even though it was 2 a.m.’
A stunned lottery player couldn’t wait to tell her kids she hit the jackpot — “even though it was 2 a.m.”
“I called my daughter, then my other daughter, then my son because I wanted to tell them all together,” winner Gwendolyn Curley told the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Curley rushed to share the early-morning news after she spent $1 to play the Cash 5 game online. Her ticket matched all five numbers picked in a recent drawing, making it worth $120,000.
“That’s a lot of money,” Curley, a Raleigh resident, told lottery officials in a May 28 news release. “I still can’t believe it.”
Curley kept $85,800 after taxes and plans to finish paying for her car. She also will help her family.
“I’m going to give my kids and grandkids some of the money,” the winner told lottery officials.
It’s not the first time that a lottery player raced to share the news of their big win. Another North Carolina winner was on the phone crying when he told his wife he was getting richer, McClatchy News reported in November.
