A man was found dead a day after he went missing in a Texas lake, according to officials.

The man in his 70s was last seen using “a small handheld propulsion device,” also known as an underwater scooter, in Lake Travis on June 22, according to a June 23 news release from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

A person called 911 to report the man missing, and witnesses told officials he was not wearing a life jacket.

Teams from multiple departments searched for the man through the evening and the next day.

Then, at 5:51 p.m. on June 23, a body matching the description of the missing man was found about 29 feet down in a cove, officials said.

Officials have not released the man’s identity or a cause of death, but foul play isn’t suspected.

Lake Travis is on the Colorado River in central Texas, about a 20-mile drive northwest from Austin.
