Powerball player misses $96M jackpot — but still wins big in NC. Where was ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a $96 million jackpot — but is still set to get a windfall in North Carolina.
The person bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the June 26 drawing, making it worth $50,000, drawing results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 4-9-36-47-56, with red Powerball 7.
The player’s ticket, which matched four white balls and the red ball, was sold in Greensboro. It came from the Walmart store on Battleground Avenue, the N.C. Education Lottery told McClatchy News in an email.
The lucky ticket was one number short of the jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $96 million. No one hit the jackpot. A $250,000 prize was the biggest Powerball win in the country the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
Lottery officials shared news about the North Carolina win with McClatchy News early June 27, before anyone could have claimed the $50,000 prize. The state gives winners about six months to cash in on drawing game prizes, game rules show.
