An Arkansas man learned about his jackpot lottery win by reading the news before bed, according to a July 16 news release from Arkansas lottery officials.

The Jonesboro man read that someone bought the winning Natural State Jackpot ticket at the same place he purchased his tickets, according to lottery officials.

He then checked his tickets, the last of which revealed a $600,000 win, officials said. The winning numbers were 15, 16, 24, 32 and 34.

“At first, I was just shocked,” the winner told lottery officials.

“I think this is worth waking you up for,” the man told his wife, who had been asleep, as he handed her the winning ticket.

She was convinced it was a joke and only began to believe it after checking the winning numbers on the lottery website, lottery officials said.

Just a week before their jackpot win, the couple discussed what they would do if they won the lottery. Now that it is a reality, the couple said they plan to pay bills, invest and save for their children, according to the release.

The winning ticket was purchased at Jordan’s Kwik Stop in Monette, lottery officials said.

The $600,000 jackpot was the highest in the history of the game, according to lottery officials.

Monette is about a 155-mile drive northeast from Little Rock.
