A Michigan woman couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw just how much she won on a scratch-off lottery ticket.

The 48-year-old woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told lottery officials she randomly buys scratch-off tickets every few months, according to an Aug. 21 news release from the Michigan Lottery.

“Usually, I buy $1 or $2 tickets, but when I was at the store, I decided to take a chance on the World Class Millions game,” the woman said.

When she saw how much she won, she had to get a second set of eyes on the ticket.

“I scratched it when I got home, and when I saw I won $4 million, I showed my mom and said, ‘Am I reading this right?’” the woman said.

The woman said she believes the prize is a gift from a special person.

“Before my dad passed, he would always buy me scratch-off tickets, so I can’t help but think this is a gift from him,” she said.

The woman chose to receive the winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of about $2.7 million. She said she plans to donate some of it and then save the rest.

“I plan to continue working, and when the time comes, I am going to use my winnings as a financial cushion for retirement,” she told lottery officials.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
