UPS driver makes ‘spur-of-the-moment’ decision to buy lottery ticket. He hits jackpot
A UPS driver made a last-minute decision to buy a lottery ticket — and it led to a huge jackpot win.
“It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing,” Cameron Vick told the North Carolina Education Lottery. “I really just decided to play out of the blue.”
His $1 lottery ticket matched all the numbers picked in a recent drawing, making it worth $160,756. The lucky winner, who lives in Greensboro, shared the emotional news with a friend.
“He hugged me and started crying,” Vick told lottery officials in an Aug. 27 news release.
The tearful moment came after Vick, a UPS driver of 37 years, told someone on his route about his prediction. He felt that he would hit the jackpot in the Cash 5 game.
“I told him, ‘I’m going to win this one,’” Vick said.
That same night, Vick learned his prediction was spot-on. He made the spontaneous decision to play the Cash 5 game online, leading to his six-figure prize, according to lottery officials.
Vick beat nearly one-in-a-million odds to win big. The winner kept $114,941 after taxes and said he hopes to spend his prize money on home repairs.
It’s not the first time a North Carolina lottery player predicted their windfall. Another winner felt that she had a prize on the horizon before she got richer, McClatchy News reported in February.
