Lottery player can’t believe big win – so he goes to another store to confirm. ‘Whoa’
A Maryland man craving potato wedges left the store with a satiated belly and a winning lottery ticket, officials said.
The South Baltimore City man stopped into a Royal Farms because he had a craving for their potato wedges – a popular item at the store, according to a Sept. 6 news release from the Maryland Lottery.
While sitting at the counter enjoying his food, “a feeling came over him” to buy two scratch-off tickets, lottery officials said.
With $20 to spend, he bought a Ravens X10 ticket and a Money Rush game, according to the release.
“I looked at it, but I wasn’t paying full attention to it,” the man said, referencing the Money Rush ticket he had revealed.
“Then, I thought, ‘What did I just see?’ and I looked at it a second time,” he told lottery officials.
After realizing he’d won $50,000, the man scanned the scratch-off to verify his win, according to lottery officials.
Even after scanning it himself, he brought it to another retailer to have a cashier confirm the win, lottery officials said.
“Whoa,” the cashier said. “I can’t cash that here.”
The winner said he plans to pay bills, buy a car, and save the rest of his prize money for retirement, according to the release.
The man bought his winning ticket at Royal Farms in Dundalk.
Dundalk is about an 8-mile drive southeast from Baltimore.
