A loyal Maryland lottery player has won prizes in the past.

All those, however, pale in comparison to her recent win, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Sept. 11 news release.

Even though she’d never won anything big, the most being $1,000 in the past, the woman told lottery officials her favorite thing about playing lottery games is “winning.”

So, when she walked in a Delmar market, she couldn’t but help buy a Joker’s Wild scratch-off ticket.

“I had $5 left and decided to buy one ticket,” the woman told lottery officials.

She then went to her car to scratch it, lottery officials said.

“I was sitting in my car and when I got to the last number, I’m thinking, ‘Did I see this right?’” the woman said, per the release.

In utter disbelief, the woman walked back into the store and “asked, ‘Am I seeing this right?’ And she said, ‘Yeah, you’re seeing it right!’”

The woman had won a $50,000 prize, according to lottery officials.

The woman told lottery officials she plans to use her winnings to pay off her car loan and help her two daughters.

Delmar is about a 115-mile drive southeast from Baltimore.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
