Lottery player loses but thinks ‘maybe the next one’s a winner.’ He was right
An Arkansas lottery player lost on his first scratch-off ticket, but before he drove away, he decided to give the game one more try, lottery officials said.
The Jacksonville resident stopped at a Kum & Go in Conway on his way home from work to buy one “$1,000,000 VIP Club” game, according to a Sept. 17 news release from Arkansas Scholarship Lottery officials.
He lost on that ticket and returned to his truck, officials said.
The winner told lottery officials that before pulling away, he thought to himself, “maybe the next one’s a winner,” and went back inside to buy one more ticket of the same game, according to the release.
That next ticket revealed a $1 million top prize, lottery officials said.
“My mouth just fell open,” the winner told lottery officials. “Am I looking at this right?”
The winner said he plans to use his prize money to pay bills and retire.
Jacksonville is about a 15-mile drive northeast from Little Rock.
