When a Maryland man made a quick stop for snacks and drinks for his family, he also bought a couple of lottery tickets.

The Laurel man, who has played the lottery “for years,” scratched his tickets after finishing a meal at home, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Sept. 18 news release.

He knew his $100,000 Crossword ticket was a winner, but he wasn’t sure just how much he had won, according to lottery officials.

So he trekked back to the liquor store to check.

Turns out, he won $100,000, a prize that “left him speechless,” lottery officials said.

“I stood there in shock,” the man told lottery officials.

The man, who “can’t stop smiling,” told lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to help buy a home, adding that will continue playing lottery games.

“I want to win $1,000,000 next,” the man said.

Laurel is about a 20-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.
