Man hiding in Burger King ceiling does $50,000 in damage, bites cop, Colorado police say
A 22-year-old man who climbed into the ceiling of a Burger King and refused to come out later bit an officer on the arm, Colorado police reported.
The man first locked himself inside a bathroom at the restaurant and refused to leave after employees noticed water coming out from under the door at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, Alamosa police said in a news release.
After workers called for help, officers spent 30 minutes trying to convince the man to come out before he climbed into the ceiling, police said.
The man did “extensive” damage to the restaurant, including kicking a hole in an exterior wall, while inside the ceiling as officers tried to get him to come down, police said.
After an hour, the man surrendered to police but bit an officer on the arm, police said. He also damaged a patrol car by kicking it after being arrested.
The man did $50,000 in damage to the Burger King, police said.
Officers arrested Dare Mezidor of Alamosa on charges of burglary, assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and obstructing police, the agency said.
Alamosa is about a 235-mile drive southwest from Denver.
