Hikers pummeled by blocks of ice falling from Utah waterfall, officials say. See rescue
A group of hikers were pummeled by blocks of ice falling from a waterfall in Utah, rescuers said.
One of them was seriously injured by the ice and had to be rescued from the mountain, North Fork Fire Rescue said in a March 24 post on Instagram.
The patient’s condition required rescuers to hoist and carry them down to a helicopter waiting to fly them to a trauma center for treatment, the agency said.
Dramatic photos and video show the rescue as well as the steep waterfall at Bridal Veil Falls where the group was hiking.
“As a reminder, warmer temperatures are coming,” the agency said. “Ice and snow will not be fully melted for quite sometime. Dress accordingly for the higher elevations, and if you must explore — be extra cautious!!”
Bridal Veil Falls is about a 45-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.
