Unconscious climber found dangling from rope after fall at park, CO rescuers say
A 55-year-old climber was found unconscious after falling at a state park, Colorado officials said.
On April 22, the man was with his climbing partner scaling the Wind Tower at Eldorado Canyon State Park when the man, who was tied into a rope, fell 15 feet, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
The Wind Tower is at an elevation of 5,500 feet and can be split into its south and southwest face, according to the Mountain Project’s website.
On the south face you’ll come across fewer climbers while the southwest face is frequently climbed for those looking for a more beginner level rock, the website said.
Rocky Mountain Rescue Group personnel found the injured and unconscious hiker in under 20 minutes and he was placed into a litter so he could be taken down the loose terrain, officials said.
Officials didn’t specify the climber’s condition as of April 22.
He was transported to the hospital for medical treatment at the end of the hourlong rescue mission, officials said.
Boulder County is about a 50-mile drive northwest of Denver.
