Cat who can’t stop sneezing gets laughed at, PA shelter says. He needs a home

A gentle and loving cat is breaking hearts at one Philadelphia animal shelter — but not in a good way.

Asher is a handsome, 4-year-old black cat who loves both giving and receiving kisses from the people he loves. And while he adores attention, he seems to be getting the wrong type from some who are looking to adopt a cat at the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

“Our hearts are breaking for Asher,” the shelter said in an April 30 Facebook post. “Every day, he watches as people approach his kennel... and every day he watches them walk away.”

It stems from Asher’s health issue that zeroes in on his nose and eyes, the shelter says.

“You see, Asher is a bit different than other kitties. This sweet boy has a chronic upper respiratory condition, leaving him a little snorty, sometimes sneezy, and often with a runny nose,” the shelter says. “It’s nothing contagious - just something he’ll live with, like a quirky little trait. But it’s often enough to make people overlook him and snicker as they walk by.”

All Asher needs is the unyielding love of someone who will do more than give him a second glance.

“What they don’t see right away is how gentle and loving Asher is. He has the biggest heart, adores attention, and would happily spend the day curled beside someone who gives him a little love,” the shelter says.

“Asher may not be the ‘perfect’ cat - but he’s perfectly himself. And that should be enough.”
