On Monday, May 26, the American Music Awards celebrated the music industry by handing out fan-voted awards to some of the biggest stars in music.

At the end of the show, a musician who has been in the music industry for several decades was honored and celebrated. Sir Rod Stewart was given the AMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his lauded career.

Stewart is responsible for hit songs like “Sailing,” “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” “Forever Young,” “Maggie May” and so many more.

Now, at 80 years old, Stewart is headlining a successful residency in Las Vegas and preparing for a 20-show tour called “One Last Time.”

After detailing Stewart’s illustrious career, five of Stewart’s eight children appeared on stage to present their father with the award.

It was something Stewart had no idea was happening.

As his kids congratulated him, a surprised Stewart appeared on stage telling the crowd that he thought his kids had made a video for him, not that they would be there in person. “I’m flabbergasted. I didn’t know they were here,” he said on stage.

After thanking the fans for their support, Stewart closed out the awards show by performing “Forever Young” as his kids watched on.

And fans were in awe over the performance.

“Awww Sir Rod Stewart presented by his kids. Rod singing Forever Young afterwards,” one fan wrote.

“Rod Stewart just saved this whole show,” another viewer shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I hope to have Rod Stewart energy at 80,” added another.
