Fireworks explode in garage before Fourth of July, killing one, CA officials say

One person died after fireworks exploded in a home’s garage, California police said.

On July 3, Ventura County firefighters responded to a blazing home after fireworks exploded in the home’s garage, according to a news release by the Simi Valley Police Department.

The fire started in the garage before spreading to the home’s attic, firefighters said.

Firefighters were still working on putting out the fire as of July 3, according to the release. Police did not identify the person who died.

Simi Valley is about a 40-mile drive northwest from downtown Los Angeles.
