2-year-old boy killed, 14 injured when car crashes into restaurant, IL cops say

A 2-year-old boy at a was killed when a car crashed through the front entrance of a restaurant, Illinois police said.

Fourteen people were injured, and eight of those people were hospitalized, when the vehicle struck a Portillo’s in Oswego on July 30, according to a news release from the Oswego Police Department.

Police said the crash was a “tragic accident” but did not give further details about what led up to the accident.

The driver, a 50-year-old woman, was also hospitalized, Oswego Police Chief Jason Bastin said in a news conference streamed on Facebook. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the crash.

Oswego is about a 45-mile drive southwest from Chicago.
