Ex town employee’s recording implicated council member in sex offense, FL cops say
A politician in the Florida Panhandle is facing felony accusations of sexual battery by one of the town’s former employees, according to investigators.
The accusations were made against Coy Mixon, who is a member of the Noma City Council, the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reported in an Oct. 13 news release.
“A former employee of the City of Noma filed a complaint against Mixon, alleging that he inappropriately touched her. During the investigation, the victim provided audio recordings related to the incident,” the sheriff’s office said.
“The case was presented to the State Attorney’s Office, which reviewed the evidence and approved the charge of one count of sexual battery and one count of battery.”
Details of what happened and the dates involved were not released.
The town issued a statement about the arrest on Oct. 13, noting it “will cooperate fully with any lawful requests or proceedings related to the case.”
“The town will not be making any further public comment while this remains an active investigation,” the Facebook post reports.
“Town business and operations will continue as normal, and the Town Council will address any matters related to Council Member Mixon’s position at the next scheduled meeting.”
McClatchy News has not been able to reach Mixon for comment. Court records indicate he has not yet hired an attorney. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 29, records show.
Noma is about a 100-mile drive northwest of Tallahassee near the Alabama state line. It has a population of about 250 people.
