A 57-year-old hiker needed rescuing from a Hawaii trail after a spider bite left him weak and feverish, officials said.

The man texted 911 at 9:44 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, from the Kalalau Trail on the island of Kaua’i, the County of Kaua’i said in a Facebook post.

He believed he had been bitten by a spider, and the infection had spread, so he needed help getting off the trail, officials said.

A helicopter responded within a minute, and first responders went to the Kalalau Beach to find the man from Hawaii.

Officials said he was put in the helicopter and taken to a softball field, then transported to a hospital. His updated condition was not provided.
