A generous and caring community is being praised by a shelter in British Columbia, Canada, for coming to the aid of a puppy who was abandoned with a dire injury.

“Lady was rescued by a kind animal lover who saw that this sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel had been left all alone in agony under a park bench suffering from a fractured hind leg,” BC SPCA said in a Dec. 11 Facebook post.

“Lady was not even a year old and had endured so much, but thankfully there was a compassionate community of Forever Guardians by her side every step of the way.”

Forever Guardians is a group of individuals who have made donations to neglected — or abandoned — animals of the British Columbia SPCA in their final will and testaments, the SPCA says on its website. All the names of those who left donations — even though they’re no longer alive — are listed on the site.

“Lady would never meet them, but their kindness was her best chance at a life free from pain and filled with comfort and joy,” the shelter said.

Although Lady was helped by the extreme generosity of the guardians and the Victoria Animal Care Centre, bad news would befall her.

“Sadly, it quickly became clear that because her injury had been neglected for so long that her little leg could not be saved, she was given surgery to have it removed. At that time, staff also confirmed she suffered from parasites,” the post said.

“Forever Guardians compassion was there every step of the way and soon after surgery, and after medications, treatment and care for her leg she would soon find a loving forever family.”

According to those in the comment section, Lady found a family that loves her.

The BC SPCA is located in Vancouver.
