Lexington gymnastics center closes doors after failing to pay bills
AmeriSport Gymnastics, a Lexington gym that hosted birthday parties and gymnastics classes, has closed its doors after failing to pay its rent.
“Amerisport Gymnastics has closed,” according to a notice Monday on the gym’s website. “If you want to continue learning or playing, please contact The Academy - Lexington Gymnastics and Cheerleading ...”
In a Fayette District Court hearing last Tuesday, owner Ted Jackson was told he had seven days to vacate the property.
“We’re leaving,” Jackson said when asked if he would challenge the ruling. “Right now, we’re done.”
The gym has faced financial difficulties for years. There were two active tax liens against AmeriSport as of last week, one for failing to pay its taxes to the Fayette County Board of Education and one for failing to pay its unemployment insurance taxes.
Since 2013, the gym had been listed in bad standing with the Secretary of State’s office for failing to file its annual reports.
The gym also was delinquent in paying its local taxes, according to Susan Straub, the communications director for the Office of the Mayor.
