Voters’ Guide: Where Amy McGrath and Andy Barr stand on 18 key issues for KY voters
The race between U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, and former Marine Corps pilot Amy McGrath, D-Georgetown, in Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District has drawn national attention.
McGrath is a candidate who fits the moment: the first woman Marine to fly in an F-18 in combat who was spurred into the political arena by the election of President Donald Trump. She cannon-balled into the national spotlight with a viral campaign announcement video calling out Barr and has ridden that momentum ever since, overcoming popular Lexington Mayor Jim Gray in the Democratic primary and turning a district Trump won by 15 points into a tossup election.
Barr is a consistent conservative in a state that’s rapidly voting more and more Republican. He’s brought in prominent members of his party, including Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan, to make the pitch that the country is on the right track and needs to stay under Republican control. He may have the ideological bent of the district on his side: in each of his past four campaigns, Barr has won by larger and larger margins.
Here’s where Barr and McGrath stand on 18 key issues.
