Alexandra Owensby, a nurse practitioner from Fort Thomas, has filed to run as a Democrat for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District seat, held by Republican Thomas Massie of Lewis County since 2012.

Owensby, who filed Monday, is making her first bid for public office. The district generally follows the Ohio River in the northern and northeastern part of the state.

In a campaign postcard for next year’s election, Owensby said she “can help fix our broken health care system.” She described herself as “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” and a “single, full-time mother who gets the struggle working and middle-class families face.”

Owensby has a doctorate of nursing practice.

Owensby and Massie are the only two candidates who have announced their candidacies so far for the 2020 election for a two-year term.

Next year’s primary elections will be held May 14 to select party nominees. The general elections will be Nov. 3.
