Beshear and family test negative for COVID-19 after ‘not feeling well’

After reportedly feeling sick in the day, Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear have tested negative for COVID-19, the governor said late Tuesday afternoon.

“Both my family and I are OK. We’ve tested negative for COVID-19 after a real scare,” he said in a video update.

Beshear canceled a ribbon-cutting ceremony early Tuesday afternoon “out of an abundance of caution,” after he and his wife started “feeling bad with a lot of the symptoms that could suggest COVID-19,” he said, adding that he’s still feeling “a little under the weather.”

As a result, he self-isolated for the afternoon and postponed a virtual ceremony, co-hosted with U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers, R-Kentucky, scheduled to take place in the Capitol and celebrate the completion of three Abandoned Mine Lands Pilot Program grant projects in Perry, Floyd and Clay counties.

“While my family ended up negative today, I know there’s a lot of families out there who are positive. We send you our love. We want you to get better,” Beshear said.

Instead of holding his daily 4 p.m. update on the state of COVID-19 in Kentucky, normally held in person in the Capitol Rotunda, Beshear released a recorded video.
