The world’s most famous horse race will get a big shot of political horse race drama this year.

Former president Donald Trump will be in attendance for the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby at Louisville’s Churchill Downs, according to multiple reports.

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman first broke the news on Thursday, tweeting out an invitation to a fundraiser for the Trump-aligned Super PAC “MAGA, Again!”

Trump will be present, per the invitation, along with PAC leaders Kimberly Guilfoyle, Pam Bondi, Richard Grenell and Matt Whitaker. The price to attend the event is $75,000 per person.

The former Republican president has not said whether or not he will run again for the presidency. He is still extremely popular among Republicans across the country, according to a recent Morning Consult poll.

A spokesperson for Churchill Downs did not immediately respond to a request for comment by the Herald-Leader to confirm that the event will be held at the famed Louisville venue.

Trump has previously attended the Derby. Last year, he stirred the pot in the horseracing world when he wrote in a statement that the 2021 Kentucky Derdy first-place finisher Medina Spirit was a “junky.” Medina Spirit crossed the finish line first, but was later disqualified for testing positive for an anti-inflammatory steroid.
