The Russian Federation has officially banned Gov. Andy Beshear from entering the country, which is currently ensnared in controversy due to its invasion of Ukraine.

Posted last week, the list includes 33 other American governors.

Beshear responded on Monday, putting out on social media that he’s “against violence and oppression.”

“I stand for freedom and against violence and oppression. Being banned by Russia will not deter me from standing up for what is right,” Beshear said.

Russia has stated that it considers the ban lists as a reciprocal action following bans and sanctions from several Western nations.

The paths of Kentucky’s two top members of its federal delegation, Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, have diverged on this issue. McConnell was banned by Russia over the summer, while Paul was ‘blacklisted’ by Ukraine for bucking the will of most members of both political parties and delaying federal aid to Ukraine in its efforts to rebuff Russia.
