The vast majority of Kentucky’s House of Representatives voted yes on House Bill 470, a measure that would essentially ban gender-affirming care for Kentucky minors, including surgery and puberty blockers.

Sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Decker, R-Shelbyville, the legislation would restrict how health care providers across specialties treat their transgender patients under 18 by outlawing “gender-affirming care” and “gender transition services.”

Decker said the bill “seeks to protect Kentucky’s children from irreparable damage.”

Opponents, including doctors, said the bill will have grave impacts on an already marginalized population.
