Mitch McConnell cleared to resume schedule after spraining wrist, cutting face in fall
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., needed medical attention after suffering a fall in Washington, D.C., Tuesday afternoon.
The 82-year-old senator sprained his wrist and sustained a “minor cut to the face,” according to a spokesperson for his office.
Medical professionals were seen entering his office after the event occurred, according to press reports.
The spokesperson wrote that the longtime Senate leader “has been cleared to resume his schedule.”
The McConnell spokesperson added that the fall occurred “following lunch” on Tuesday. Reporters on scene at the U.S. Capitol said the Senate GOP had lunch earlier that day.
In addressing questions during a presser shortly after the event, Senate Majority Leader-Elect John Thune, R-S.D., said “he is fine, he is in his office,” in reference to McConnell’s condition.
This is not the first incident that has drawn attention to the condition of thesenator, who recently became the longest-serving Senate leader in history.
In March 2023, McConnell had to go the hospital after falling at a dinner event in Washington. Later that year, McConnell froze for a prolonged period of time during two separate press appearances.
The incidents have prompted questions over whether or not McConnell will seek reelection in 2026, when his six-year term is up. McConnell has not made a commitment either way.
