Beshear on air: Governor inks deal with SiriusXM for podcast, call-in show
Gov. Andy Beshear is increasing his reach even further beyond the borders of Kentucky.
In a deal announced Thursday with radio network SiriusXM, the Democratic governor’s “Andy Beshear Podcast” will now air weekly on the network’s Progress channel 127. Beshear will also host a regular call-in show.
The move comes as Beshear’s name is being circulated by media and party insiders alike as a potential contender for the Democratic nomination for president in 2028. Beshear has not denied interest in running for president and has thus far parried suggestions that he run for U.S. Senate in Kentucky instead.
It also aligns with a growing realization from Democrats that Republican President Donald Trump improved his standing with voters due to the many appearances on podcasts he made in the lead up to the 2024 election.
Beshear’s podcast has already posted 22 episodes since starting in April. Its guests have included major Democratic politicians like Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein, big donors like John Morgan of Morgan & Morgan and Mark Cuban, and celebrities like influencer Harry Sisson and University of Louisville Basketball Coach Pat Kelsey.
Beshear is not the only potential presidential candidate to have his own podcast.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has turned heads with his own podcast featuring guests from across the political spectrum, including figures on the far right. As of July, Newsom’s podcast had an estimated monthly download rate more than 50 times higher than Beshear’s, according to politics and media newsletter Chaotic Era.
Newsom has his own deal with iHeartMedia.
Beshear’s first guest on the new network is House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-NY. The pair’s interview will take place in SiriusXM’s New York City studio and will air Sep. 10.
“I want this podcast to be a space to bring people together — especially in such a stressful and divisive time in our country. This is a conversation with friends, and we talk about things that matter to all of us: sports, politics, pop culture, our kids,” Beshear said in a statement. “I’m excited to expand this conversation with listeners across the country on SiriusXM, highlighting a wide range of voices and ideas that can help move us all forward, together.”
Eric Hyers, Beshear’s longtime top political strategist, told the Herald-Leader that the governor was not receiving an upfront payment as part of the deal.
“The governor did not seek, nor is he getting, any upfront payment. Rather, he is looking forward to a strong partnership that will help him expand the reach of the podcast. With all the chaos and cruelty coming out of D.C., now more than ever it is important that as many Americans as possible can hear a common sense, common ground, get-things-done type of show that can bring people together,” Hyers wrote in a statement.
