Somerset insurance agent Rick Girdler wins GOP nod in state Senate District 15
Rick Girdler, an insurance agent in Somerset, won a four-way race for the Republican nomination in state Senate District 15.
Girlder, 60, had touted his nearly four decades of experience in the insurance business and his social and fiscal conservatism, and pledged to work fulltime at the job.
“My thing is, I’ll be available from 8 o’clock in the morning until 8 o’clock at night,” he said at one forum.
The district is made up of Pulaski, Boyle and Lincoln counties, but all the candidates were from Somerset.
The others were Don Moss, an insurance agent and attorney; optometrist Joshua Nichols; and Michael Keck, a business consultant.
The candidates shared similar positions on many issues.
The seat was open because incumbent Republican Sen. Chris Girdler, Rick Girdler’s nephew, did not seek a second term.
No Democrat filed for the general election.
