A group of protesters confronted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell about immigration on Monday in Washington, D.C., and got a heated response from his wife, Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao.

In video clips making the rounds on social media Tuesday, a handful of men approaches the couple as they exit a building, and one man repeats the question, "Why are you separating families?"

While McConnell makes a beeline for the car, Chao comes around to the back of the vehicle and loudly responds, "Why don't you leave my husband alone? Why don't you leave my husband alone?"

A man can be heard asking "How does he sleep at night?" as Chao points at the man and is guided toward the vehicle by a man who appears to be part of the couple's security detail.

Jesus Rodriguez and a man named Roberto, who said he is a Georgetown senior and was among the group, posted videos on Twitter, saying the couple were leaving an event at Georgetown University when the protesters confronted them.

The protesters played audio reportedly taken of immigrant children crying for their families at the border. The recording was released last week by Pro Publica.
