Vice President JD Vance is in Kentucky this week.

Vance and his family, along with Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and his family “will visit with and provide remarks to servicemembers at U.S. Army Fort Campbell” Wednesday, Fort Campbell said in a news release.

Vance and his family are scheduled to join troops for a Thanksgiving meal at the site, and Vance will deliver remarks afterward.

Fort Campbell is about 225 miles southwest of Lexington, on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line, near Hopkinsville and Clarksville, Tenn.

A VIP flew into Blue Grass Airport in Lexington Tuesday evening, shutting down roads in the area.

Airport Community Relations Manager Lauren Simmerman said in a message that the airport had a ramp freeze for about 25 minutes Tuesday evening “due to a VIP arrival that caused minimal impacts to arrivals and departures.”

During a ramp freeze, outdoor foot traffic and vehicle movement on the ramp and airfield are prohibited, Simmerman said.

Both the Lexington Fire Department and Lexington Police Department had a significant presence at the airport Tuesday evening. Both agencies declined to provide information about the purpose of their presence there.

Vance is friends with Lexington resident Nate Morris, one of the contenders for outgoing Sen. Mitch McConnell’s seat in the U.S. Senate.

Zach Witkoff and his wife Sophi Knight recently hosted a fundraiser for Morris at their family farm, Rushing Dream Farm, which is on the market and near the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Last year, Vance appeared at a GOP fundraiser at Central Bank Center in Lexington that was hosted by Kelly and Joe Craft.
