Why packing animal crackers in cheese cracker boxes can be a ‘life-threatening’ mistake

After a customer complaint, 1,855 cases of Back to Nature Cheddalicious Cheese Flavored Crackers have been recalled in Florida, California, New York and 10 other states for a problem that can have “serious or life-threatening consequences—” they could have another company’s animal crackers.

This would just bring eye rolls and sighs, but the animal crackers contain egg and milk, while the cheese crackers sold under the “Back to Nature” brand don’t have egg or milk. So, egg and milk aren’t listed among the ingredients on the cheese crackers box.

No problem beyond inconvenience for those who don’t have an egg allergy or milk allergy. But, as the recall notice states, “people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to egg or milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the animal shaped crackers contained in the recalled boxes.”

B&G Foods is recalling the 6-ounce boxes with the Sept. 5, 2022 best-by date. These boxes went to customer warehouses in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
