Deputies arrested a woman Wednesday who allegedly stole money from a man who had just died in a motorcycle crash, Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell said.
Police responded to a single motorcycle accident on Whetstone Road around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday and found Scott Bray, 36, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County coroner.
Bray had been traveling on his motorcycle when he lost control as he was rounding a curve, Harrell said. Bray then went over a 20-foot embankment and struck a tree.
Witnesses at the scene told the dispatched officers they had seen a woman going through the victim’s wallet before the deputies arrived. Later, police arrested Alishia McElfresh, 37, and charged her with unlawful taking and tampering with physical evidence.
