Ky. police training program is looking for people who want to get paid to drink alcohol

Drink free booze, eat free food and get paid $100 for the time you spent doing it?

The Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training says it isn’t too good to be true.

The department said in a Facebook post Monday that it needs volunteers to help its Basic Training Academy recruits practice field sobriety testing.

And they’ve gotten plenty of people interested in taking them up on their offer. The post had been shared more than 1,500 times by Tuesday night.

The department said participants can choose to drink bourbon, vodka or rum, which will be given in “regulated amounts.”

“Pick your favorite, add coke or OJ,” the post said.

Volunteers are required to stay on site until their blood alcohol level returns to 0.00.

The department says its “drinking lab” on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University has blankets, comfy chairs and a television for people to enjoy while they sober up.

Volunteers are needed on March 21, April 25 and June 6. People who were interested were directed to contact Brooke Norton at docjt.duitraining@ky.gov or call 859-622-6453.

People who commented on the post had plenty of questions.

One person asked who determines how much alcohol participants can drink. The department responded that its instructors use an algorithm based on the person’s weight and consumption frequency.

The department said it has run the volunteer program to help train law enforcement officers in DUI detection for 20 years.
