Ground beef sold in Kentucky, eight other states has been recalled
More than 2,000 pounds of raw ground beef that was sold at retail establishments in Kentucky and eight other states is being recalled.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday that Amity Packing Company of Chicago is recalling the meat because it may be contaminated with “clear, thin pliable plastic,” according to a news release.
The ground beef was produced Jan. 6 and sold in one-pound vacuum-packed packages labeled “Pre 95% lean/5% fat ground beef.” The label says it should be used or frozen by 1/31/2020. The lot code on the label is 0060, and the case code is 11402, according to the release. The right front side of the package bears the establishment number “EST. 6916.”
The meat was sent to retailers in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Pre Brands has received two complaints from consumers who reported finding the plastic in the beef, the USDA said.
The USDA said there have not been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions as a result of people consuming the meat.
Anyone with the recalled meat at home should throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased, the agency said.
