Whitley County crash leaves semi hauling hazardous materials hanging off bridge

A crash Monday morning in Whitley County left a tractor trailer hauling hazardous flammable materials hanging off the side of a bridge, according to Kentucky State Police.

The crash, which happened on Buck Creek Road about five miles south of Williamsburg, caused a hazardous material leak, according to state police.

The road was closed and the nearby area was evacuated as Hazmat crews worked to clean up the crash.

People in the area were able to return to their homes later Monday, according to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner. The truck driver was not hurt.

About 5,000 gallons of butyl acrylate leaked onto railroad tracks below the bridge, but there was no danger of the chemical spreading, the news station reported.
