Remains found in Cynthiana have been identified as missing man

Human remains found in Cynthiana Monday night have been identified as a man who has been missing since last fall.

Kentucky State Police said they were called by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office at about 6:30 p.m. Monday about possible human remains that were found in the River Road area within the Cynthiana city limits.

State police said the remains were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office and identified as belonging to David Scott Whisman, 31, of Cynthiana, who had been reported missing Oct. 7.

Whisman was last seen at the Apple Market gas station, and his family told WKYT in November that while he didn’t always stay at the same place, it was unusual for him not to call them regularly.

State police told the television station at the time that they did not suspect foul play.

Kentucky State Police said they are investigating the death. A cause of death was not released Tuesday.
