Ambulance hits truck with 10-month-old inside, one woman dies, Kentucky police say

A Kentucky woman died Saturday when a truck she was riding in got into a collision with an ambulance.

A Taylor County ambulance was going west on U.S. 68 near Lebanon when the driver approached a Ford F-150, Kentucky State Police said. The Ford was making a left-hand turn on to Elk Run Road at the same time the ambulance tried to go around it, and the ambulance hit the truck on the driver’s side, police said. The ambulance did not have its lights and sirens on, according to Trooper Nicholas Hale.

The collision killed Rose Grace, a 41-year-old Gravel Switch resident, police said. The driver of the truck, 47-year-old Justin Grace, was taken to Springview Hospital and then airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Justin Grace’s condition was stable as of Wednesday, Hale said.

A 10-month-old passenger was treated at Springview Hospital, police said.

The ambulance driver was George Mars, a 43-year-old Campbellsville resident, police said. He was treated at Taylor County Hospital, along with 27-year-old Sydney Smith, a passenger in the ambulance from Greensburg, police said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, police said. The collision was still under investigation by a KSP sergeant as of Monday.

Hale said Wednesday morning that no charges had been pressed.
