14-year-old Kentucky boy dies after SUV he was driving runs off the road, police say
A Kentucky 14-year-old died after a Jeep he was driving ran off the road and flipped over, Kentucky State Police said.
Julian Duke, 14 of Smithland, was driving a 2006 Jeep SUV in Graves County on Tuesday when it ran off the road, hit several trees and fell down a steep embankment, police said. Duke died at the scene, police said.
Austin Mullins, 16, was a passenger in the car, police said. He called KSP’s Post 1 dispatch to report the crash off of Ky. 849 East, police said. Troopers responded about 2:30 p.m., police said.
Mullins was injured but was able to exit the vehicle, police said. He was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, police said.
Police said they do not know what caused Smithland to crash, but both teens were wearing their seat belts. The wreck is under investigation by a trooper and a collision reconstructionist, police said.
