Kentucky teen died from attack by feral dogs, state police confirm

State police have confirmed that feral dogs attacked and killed a Knott County teen whose body was found in February on a hill near a former surface coal mine.

Authorities said soon after the killing that the death of Corey Godsey, 13, was consistent with an animal attack, but had not released additional details.

Detectives, assisted by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, used wildlife cameras to find several dogs at the mine site, then trapped the animals, according to a news release issued Monday.

Police compared DNA evidence from the dogs with evidence found on the boy’s body, and found matches with several of the dogs, according to the news release.
