Kentucky man accused of abusing 2-year-old was once convicted of beating baby, cops say
A Kentucky man convicted of beating a baby in 2014 is now accused of abusing another child, officials say.
A Whitley County Sheriff’s Department deputy went to a Williamsburg home Saturday after receiving a complaint that a 2-year-old boy was unresponsive, according to a citation.
Bradley Powers, 26, told the deputy the boy was in the bedroom, the citation states. The boy was discovered with “bruising to his face and arms, back and legs” and was in and out of consciousness, the deputy wrote.
The deputy later found more bruising on the boy’s ears along with knots on the front and back of his head, the citation states. A hand mark was also visible on his bottom, according to the sheriff’s office.
Powers told the deputy he had laid the child down and then went outside to smoke. When Powers came back inside, he found the boy on the floor unresponsive, the citation states.
The boy was flown to University of Tennessee Hospital due to his injuries.
Powers was charged with first-degree criminal abuse, court records show. It’s unclear the relationship between him and Powers.
Powers was charged with second-degree criminal abuse in September 2013 after he beat a 9-month-old baby, WKYT reported. Court records show he was sentenced in October 2014 to three years in prison.
