9-year-old girl found dead, man flees the scene of Central Kentucky crash
A 9-year-old girl was killed in a Mercer County car crash Tuesday night, according to the Mercer County sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash on Paradise Camp Road around 11:30 p.m., Sheriff Ernie Kelty said. They found the wrecked vehicle with five people inside, according to the sheriff’s office. Witnesses told the deputies that a man fled the scene, Kelty said. The man was found by investigators around 3 a.m., Kelty said. He was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital for treatment.
The incident was still being investigated, Kelty said. Authorities haven’t decided if any charges will be pressed yet. Further details are expected to be released at a later time, according to the sheriff’s office.
“We are going to collect all the evidence we have, and all the statements we have,” Kelty said.
The Mercer County Fire Department, coroner, constable and EMS assisted on scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
