Eastern Kentucky crash kills 3, including a juvenile, seriously hurts 2, police say

Three people, including one juvenile, are dead after a collision in Whitesburg Thursday evening, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP and the Whitesburg Police Department both responded to the two-vehicle crash at about 7:20 p.m. on the Ky. 15 bypass. Gregory Banham, a 58-year-old Mayking resident, was driving a pickup truck when he crossed the center line into the southbound lane, KSP said. He ran into Karen Jackson, a 70-year-old Neon resident. An unnamed female juvenile passenger was also killed, KSP said.

All three died on scene, KSP said. Two additional passengers were flown to Pikeville Medical Center to be treated for “serious injuries,” KSP said.

Seat belts were worn in one of the two vehicles, KSP said, but authorities didn’t clarify which vehicle.

An investigation was still underway, KSP said. Toxicology reports and autopsies were still pending, KSP said.
