Updated: Officer-related shooting leaves suspect dead at Danville hotel

A man died Tuesday after being shot by an officer with the Danville Police Department, state police said. .

Three police officers responded to a domestic-related call in a room at the Danville Super Motel 8 off of Highway 150. The suspect was holding his mother at knifepoint, according to WKYT, the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner.

After attempts to peacefully resolve the situation proved ineffective, one of the three officers fired a round and fatally wounded the suspect, police told WKYT.

Kentucky State Police said in a news release late Tuesday that the shooting happened just after 6 a.m.

They said the man, who had not been identified as of Tuesday night, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Boyle County coroner. An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

The three responding officers have been put on administrative leave, WKYT reported. The names of those involved have not been released.

Kentucky State Police said they are investigating the incident.
