Over 100 huskies, large dogs rescued from one Spencer County property
Over 100 large breeds of dogs, most of which are huskies, were rescued from a single property in Spencer County this week, according to the Kentucky Humane Society.
Spencer County Animal Care & Control (SCACC) was alerted about the dogs by the relatives of the owner, who recently died. KHS said the dogs only had dirty water to drink, broken dog houses to rest in and were living in outdoor kennels or on chains in unsanitary conditions.
KHS along with the BISSELL Pet Foundation and many other agencies were invited to assist with the rescue since SCACC does not have a shelter large enough to host the dogs.
The dogs are currently undergoing medical evaluations while plans are being made to transport the dogs to shelters that have room for them.
“We are thankful that we were able to rescue these dogs and bring them to safety,” said Lori Kane Redmon, President & CEO of KHS. “It was an enormous task that was only possible because of the incredible collaboration with our shelter partners and we are grateful for their support.”
