The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has announced the death of one of its deputies.

Alex Spencer, who joined the agency in March 2021, died Saturday from what the sheriff’s office called a “tragic accident.” The sheriff’s office released no additional details on the nature of the accident.

He was set to graduate from the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy on Feb. 3.

“Alex excelled at the academy and was so excited to be finishing and getting out on his own serving and protecting the citizens of Morgan County,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.

The sheriff’s office asked everyone to pray for Spencer’s wife, kids and family.
