Looking for mental health support? Here are resources available over the phone, in Lexington

A trio of murder-suicides across Kentucky over the weekend has left many family members and friends in disbelief and shock.

Suicide was the 10th leading cause of death for all ages in the United States in 2019 and the second leading cause of death for 10–34 year olds, according to the CDC.

A number of local and national resources are available to those who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts or a mental health crisis. In Lexington, the New Vista Community Mental Health Center has a 24-hour helpline available at 1-800-928-8000.

New Vista also has walk-in services available, plus resources and information on its website.

There are several mental health contacts located across the Commonwealth. The Kentucky Suicide Prevention Group has a list of specialists spread out across 15 regions in the state.

In Fayette County, otherwise known as the Bluegrass Region, there are 35 sources available for help.

Nationally, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255. You can also contact a trained crisis counselor at the Crisis Text Line by texting “HOME” to 741741.
