Teenager dies in a fire that ‘totally destroyed’ a Kentucky home, officials say
A 16 year old has died after a house fire caused significant damage to a home in Somerset Thursday morning, according to the Pulaski County Coroner’s office.
The fire occurred at a home in the 1500 block of Dry Branch Road, according to the local coroner’s office. In addition to the teenager’s death, the victim’s mother was taken to a hospital because she was suffering from smoke inhalation, according to the coroner’s office. She may have also suffered other non-life-threatening injuries, the coroner’s office said.
“The house was totally destroyed,” said David Muse from the Pulaski County coroner’s office.
The Kentucky Fire Marshal’s office and Kentucky State Police were investigating the incident, according to the coroner’s office. Trooper Scottie Pennington from state police said fire investigations can be slow.
“Right now, we don’t know what caused the fire,” he said. “And it’ll probably be a month or so before we even find out.”
