Lexington dive team finds human remains in submerged vehicle in Eastern Kentucky lake

Possible human remains were discovered inside a submerged vehicle in Dewey Lake Friday after the Lexington Fire Department and other agencies responded to the lake for an investigation, according to Kentucky State Police.

The Lexington Fire Department’s dive team initially responded to the area Friday to retrieve a submerged vehicle found by someone who was fishing, according to Kevin Kelly, chief communications officer with the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Kelly said the car was 10 to 12 feet below the surface.

During the operation, possible human remains were found inside the vehicle, according to state police. The possible remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for identification.

It’s unknown how long the vehicle and possible remains have been in the lake. Kelly said a local diver attempted to reach the car last week but was unable to get deep enough.
